Male Shoveler (Alan Drewitt)
Figure: UK RBBP trend 2006-2018
Numbers of Shovelers reported to the RBBP have increased in recent years, and 2018 saw the highest number of Shovelers reported to the RBBP since such recording began in 2006. Numbers reported do vary due to differences in how counties record and report breeding Shovelers. It is likely that most breeding attempts will not be confirmed, as females with young can be very inconspicuous, and so records of males in suitable habitat in spring may give the best indication of breeding numbers. Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Yorkshire all have significant numbers of breeding birds, however each year there are records from all over the UK.
